Goth Meetup Nights

Submitted by Guest on October 8, 2005 - 10:38pm.
I noticed there's a lot of new people, such as myself that are new to Vancouver/the scene here. Would anyone be interested in doing regular meet-ups nights at a coffeehouse or somesuch? I know the goth meetups they had here are pretty much defunct...who wants to revive them?

Hey all,
I just to Vancouver from San Francisco and wouldn't mind doing a goth meetup thing at Sanctuary or some such place. Hopefully, I can meet some cool "spooky" ppl. I'm tired of going out with work friends, lol!

Not been one for ages? Well I guess it has been over a month. A few of us are meeting before Sanctuary this sunday. Not sure where. But it'll be posted when confirmed.

I would love to connect with other goths at a "meetup"
or even a casual tea thing (as looks like there is no official goth"meetup"at the moment and there has not been one for ages)
JUST need lots of warning (as to date)
as I have limited email access and tend to plan social stuff a week ot two ahead

Yep, it was a good night. It was sure nice to meet you Nocturnus and Chelouise, and to see you again, Puck. We should most definately schedule another meet up soon.
Submitted by Nocturnus on December 24, 2006 - 2:53am.
Well not many people showed up but I think it was a pretty nice evening. Myself, my friend who just learned about these forums that night, Puck, and Esquire where the only ones there. We should have another meetup sometime :)

Can't make it to Taff's, I'm in shopping HELL till 9:00. Maybe next time.
Submitted by Trixy on December 22, 2006 - 2:07am.
Damn it to soft fluffy hell. The way things are looking right now, the chances of me making it out are pretty slim. There is way too much drama going on here for me to be able to make it as of this moment. So if I don't end up being there, I hope you all have an awesome time!
Submitted by Puck on December 21, 2006 - 8:49pm.
Yeyness! This is gunna be fun! See ya'll there.
Submitted by esquire on December 21, 2006 - 5:02pm.
I'll most likely be at Taf's when 8:30 rolls around. Looking forward to it, see you all tomorrow night.
Submitted by Trixy on December 21, 2006 - 12:32am.
As far as I go, a friend who I was going to meet downtown wants to meet up beforehand at my house so that puts a bit of a delay on me getting down to Taf's. My guess is the earliest I could be there is between the 8:30-9 range. Anyone going to be around still at that time?
I might still be at Taf's at that time, seeing as I am not planning on going to Sanctuary... although I might change my mind, depending on how the night goes. I just tried on the one appropriate outfit that I have (that I have not worn in almost two years) and it still fits (yay!), so who knows... we'll see how I feel after work that night.

Oh, so there's no special deal this time where you arrive before a certain hour and you get in for free? shucks. Oh well. I'd come meet all you fellas before hand, but I'm working 'til 7:30pm that night in New West, and I live in Coquitlam, so i'm gonna wanna change and eat something before I go. Here's hoping the tunes are amazing, seeings how it's a special event one, as mentioned in a previous thread, I havn;t been too impressed with the regular Sanctuary Sunday night, but i'm willing to check it out a few more times, 'cause that's the only way I'm going to ever meet anybody, still being all new from Winnipeg and such!

The cover is posted as 5$, I'll try to make it to Taf's if Christmas shopping doesn't kill me first. :-/
Submitted by Puck on December 19, 2006 - 9:28pm.
I'm in, I might be a little late getting to Tafs, half hour probably. Also, any one know what the cover for Skank is going to be?
Submitted by esquire on December 19, 2006 - 4:19pm.
Starts at 9, but I'm sure people show up at all times. We'll probably be at the coffee house for a couple hours anyway.
Submitted by Nocturnus on December 19, 2006 - 4:18am.
I might be late, not sure, 7 might work for me or might not... when do people usually try to be at sanc?
Submitted by Trixy on December 13, 2006 - 2:16pm.
Works for me. Howz about everyone else?
Submitted by esquire on December 13, 2006 - 1:56pm.
How's about 7pm? Gives us a couple hours to chat before Sanctuary.
Submitted by Trixy on December 13, 2006 - 1:45pm.
So I guess the "where" is settled. Now we need to get the "when". What time does everyone think we should meet up?
Now, between work and the fact my parents are in the middle of a really messy divorce, I may not be able to make it out. I never know from day to day what things are going to be like. However, I am going to do my absolute best, because it's been a good long while since I saw any of you (especially you, my loverly Puck), so it'd be nice to chill avec some nice gothy peoples.
Submitted by esquire on December 12, 2006 - 5:07pm.
Yeah, let's hit Taf's because there's a Starbucks on almost every corner in downtown Vancouver.
Submitted by Puck on December 11, 2006 - 6:00pm.
I'd be more partial to Taf's my self.
Submitted by Trixy on December 11, 2006 - 12:58pm.
I am not a Starbuck's fan, so Taf's definitely sounds more like my thing, but I am willing to suck it up and hit Starbuck's if that's what everyone prefers.
As it stands, I still don't know what my work schedule will be for that week, so I don't know if I will be able to make it, but I am certainly trying my best to be able to get out.

I was down at the Orpheum this weekend and noticed a Starbucks right across the street, here's a map of the area.

That said I like the sound of Taf's. I've never heard of it before and would be willing to check it out as it sounds a touch more interesting then Starbucks.
Submitted by Atratus on December 8, 2006 - 4:52pm.
I'd recommend Taf's on the 800 block of Granville. It's more or less on the way from Ganville Station to Richards. Crusty old goths like me have been going there to meet since the eighties.
They're licenced so if you are going to eat you can even have a few pre-drinks or you can just sit an have a coffee. It's a gallery as well so there are interesting things to look at.
Funky, arty, locally owned, food and booze if you want it, not a lowest-common-denominator-boring-as-fuck McDonald's of coffee, and goth friendly since before the term was coined. What more do you want?
Submitted by Nocturnus on December 8, 2006 - 3:12pm.
Sure, I should be able to do a bit of recon in the area this weekend. I'll try and find something close. I could look for hours online but that is never as fast or good as walking the beat.
As for granville station, I think its a few blocks away. I'm not great at remembering the exact location of the downtown skytrain stations.
Submitted by esquire on December 8, 2006 - 2:05pm.
Is Richards on Richards near Granville Station? I haven't been down that way in a while. Nocturnus, since you know the area, why don't you pick a place in that general vicinity and we'll meet there?
Submitted by Nocturnus on December 8, 2006 - 11:57am.
There are, just can't remember the name of half of them. The bigger places in the area that I have seen include Blenz, Starbucks, and Seattle's Best.
Depends what you consider "close" I suppose. Granville street isn't far from Richard's in my books. I walk around that area a fair bit when not stuck in classes. I know there are places to stop for coffee about every half block along Granville.
There aren't many coffee places on Richard's itself, least not that end of Richard's, but yeah the nearby streets are loaded with them. This is Vancouver afterall. You can't spit in this town without hitting a coffee shop.
Submitted by esquire on November 30, 2006 - 8:36pm.
There has to be a coffee house near Richards on Richards.
Submitted by Trixy on November 30, 2006 - 7:09pm.
I don't care where we meet up, and since I don't know the area very well, I leave that decision up to all you city-dwelling types.
Submitted by Nocturnus on November 30, 2006 - 1:43pm.
Sure I'll go
Submitted by Puck on November 30, 2006 - 9:57am.
Yeah I'm in. Have we decided where to meet up before Skank?
Submitted by esquire on November 30, 2006 - 9:02am.
Sure Trixy, 6 or 7 is fine with me. How's about everyone else?
Submitted by J. (not verified) on November 30, 2006 - 1:31am.
Nuuu... it's a Friday. - grumblegrumble - The last Friday before Winter vacation too, so I'll definetly be loaded up with work. Not to mention I usually have SBP to do for service club on Fridays because I need the hours to graduate.
Heh, well... could someone speak for me in third person while you're there? :P
Submitted by Trixy on November 29, 2006 - 10:22pm.
Alright lovelies, so long as I can get out there between weather conditions and work, I will be more than happy to tag along. What time should we all get there, you reckon? 6? 7?
Submitted by deathdealer on November 29, 2006 - 8:33pm.
Sure the 22nd sounds good, What time? I warn you I 'm much quieter in person.
It can't snow forever! :-/
Submitted by esquire on November 27, 2006 - 6:57pm.
I believe Sanctuary starts about 9pm. Would need a confirmation on that though.
Submitted by Trixy on November 27, 2006 - 3:23pm.
J. if you come, don't be all skulking in the background. We're not too bad... and we only bite if asked to.
Anyhow, I will definitely do my best to come out for the 22nd. Although, if it snows like it has the past couple days, there is no way I am driving from Abbotsford into Vancouver. :P
What times does Sanctuary start? And based on that, what time would we meet up to give us ample time to socialize beforehand?
I won't go to Sanctuary (clubs aren't my scene), but I will try my best to do the coffee thing.
Submitted by esquire on November 27, 2006 - 9:05am.
How's about we meet there on the 22nd before Sanctuary? We haven't forgotten you Trixy! What do you have in mind for a meet up?
Submitted by deathdealer on November 26, 2006 - 7:33pm.
The only Starbucks close to Richards on Richards is 600 Dunsmuir st, That's what the web site said anyway!.
Submitted by esquire on November 26, 2006 - 2:49pm.
Are there any Starbucks or other coffee places near Richards on Richards?
Submitted by deathdealer on November 26, 2006 - 11:27am.
I don't have skull buckle boots would you settle for Sketchers or I could paint skulls on them. :P
Submitted by J. (not verified) on November 26, 2006 - 1:25am.
I'll come but you people won't see me. I'll just hide in a corner with a book and admire from afar. :P
Submitted by Puck on November 25, 2006 - 5:22pm.
Just skulls eh? No skull buckle boots???
Submitted by deathdealer on November 25, 2006 - 5:09pm.
Hey I'll say I want to go and then not show up on Fri Dec 22, Sounds like fun! What coffee place were you thinking about? . It will be nice to go to Sanctuary ,And not have to leave early so I can wake up at 4:30 in the morning for work. I've only met a couple of people from Sanctuary because I was out of the scene for 10 years or so. Just tell me a place and time and I'll be there with skulls on. ;D
Submitted by Puck on November 25, 2006 - 1:43pm.
Hey, we have fresh blood, they might just break the tradition! Lets not discourage them too much.
Submitted by Trixy on November 25, 2006 - 4:06am.
Well then we need to work something out before you leave us again!
I am starting a new job on Monday and don't know what my schedule is going to look like, but once I get that figured out, I will let you know.
Is there anyone else who wants to say they will come and then not show up? :P
Submitted by Puck on November 24, 2006 - 2:55pm.
I'm always up for coffee, as for Skank... I have to deliberate on my School situation first(wOOt for finals!). Umm, I'm pretty much free any weekend, but I may be leaving the country around the 17th(possibly, but not confirmed as of yet), so after the 17th, I'd be out of any meet ups for about a month.
Submitted by esquire on November 24, 2006 - 9:08am.
Well put Trixy, couldn't have said it better myself. Coffee is as good an idea as any for me. That way we can shoot the breeze and discuss what's new and exciting with everyone. Possibly a weekend in December. Here are my free days for coffee, December 16, 17, 23.
As for Sanctuary; Nocturnus, Puck and whoever else is interested, any Sunday is good or Friday the 22nd if you want to meet for coffee beforehand.
Submitted by Nocturnus on November 23, 2006 - 6:17pm.
haha Trixy. Yeah well I'm far too familiar with that little game myself. I been trying to weeks to organize an event with some people from my college and have finally given up entirely with them. That is why I suggest a coffee shop. Less hassle and no big deal if people never appear.
Downtown works for me, I live out in the west side suburbs near UBC (Dunbar/Southlands area if anyone knows it)
