Q: What is sliding scale and why are we doing it this time?

In light of the #metoo movement (originally started years ago by Tarana Burke), we'd like to donate 25% of door proceeds to WAVAW this month. We'd like to give you the opportunity to pay the same amount you normally pay to get in, but also the opportunity to pay more so that we can donate more. For anyone that pays over $10 cover, 25% of that $10 plus the entire amount you pay over $10 will be donated to WAVAW to pay for services for survivors of sexualized violence.

Let's continue to keep The Dark Eighties and The Astoria a safe, harassment and assault free zone. Most of you ALREADY know this but for those of you that don't, here are some handy tips for keeping the party environment safe...keep your hands to yourself unless given consent to touch someone (EG: If you see someone you find attractive, don't grab a part of their face or body and don't dance up against them. Starting a conversation with that person can be cool, though if you can tell the person would rather not be conversing with you, you should politely walk away, not persist and/or get angry). Also please do not be following the object of your desire around the bar or the dance floor, especially when you can see they are trying to escape you. Much of the time, being followed makes people feel scared/upset/annoyed/angry/etc and can ruin a fun night out. Hooking up with someone drunk, especially when you are sober or far less drunk is also a huge no-no. We want everyone to have a fun, safe time. So if you see anyone being made uncomfortable or put at risk of any kind of harassment, sexual or otherwise please say something...if you don't feel saying something directly, PLEASE REPORT this to the security, doorperson and bar staff sooner rather than later so they can deal with the situation! People who sexually harass other people are not welcome at The Astoria or The Dark Eighties events. That being said, most of the people that have come to our parties are LOVELY, much appreciated, and we have had very few complaints of harassment at The Dark Eighties. We just want everyone to continue having a super fun time, and raise some money to help those who have been affected by sexual assault.
